ABOUT WESTERN HAY

about us page

Western Hay is a Western Australian stockfeed business specialising in fibrous fodder products such as hay and chaff. Owned and operated by Richard and Melissa Rose, Western Hay is an efficient and innovative team dedicated to producing top quality products for your livestock.

We pride ourselves on our quality assurance. Core sampling is mandatory on all hay to test feed values and for presence of Annual Ryegrass Toxicity (ARGT) on applicable fodder types.

QUALITY PERFECTED OVER DECADES

The Rose Family has been farming in WA’s Wheatbelt for more than one hundred years. Beginning in Cunderdin at the turn of the 20th century, the family moved to the rolling hills near New Norcia after World War II.

Western Hay is built on the foundation laid by Richard’s father John Rose, who switched to hay production during the eighties following the collapse of the wool industry.

Growing up surrounded by hay crops, Richard’s passion for producing quality cereals started at a young age. By 15 Richard had started his own hay contracting and share farming business. In 2006, Richard purchased a 172 acre plot next door to the family farm with his wife Melissa and shortly after the couple founded Western Hay.

The business now has a state of the art chaff mill, incorporating steam and an extensive dust extraction system. Western Hay continues the tradition of quality fodder, perfected over generations, and sustainably farmed year after year. At Western Hay, quality comes naturally.
