With a rich heritage spanning over a century, the Rose Family has deep roots in WA's Wheatbelt. Originally farming in Cunderdin at the beginning of the 20th century, the family later relocated to the picturesque rolling hills near New Norcia after World War II.
western hay proudly carries forward the legacy established by Richard's father, John Rose, who transitioned to hay production in the 1980s following the decline of the wool industry. Surrounded by hay crops from an early age, Richard developed a passion for producing high-quality cereals. At the age of 15, he embarked on his own hay contracting and share farming venture. In 2006, Richard and Melissa purchased a 172-acre plot adjacent to the family farm and founded western hay.
Today, we boast a state-of-the-art chaff mill equipped with cutting-edge technology, including steam and an extensive dust extraction system. This ensures that we continue the tradition of producing superior fodder, perfected over generations while prioritising sustainability year after year. At western hay, the pursuit of quality is deeply ingrained in our ethos.

We ensure that all our hay undergoes mandatory core sampling to test feed values and detect the presence of Annual Ryegrass Toxicity (ARGT) when applicable.
